Homeopathy 101

Homeopathy 101

When I started to get to know my husband 24 years ago, I actually got hurt while we were on a missions trip to Portland Oregon. I'm not going into details about how I stupidly got hurt, let's just say I ended up punching myself in my nose. And it was to the point where everything felt dizzy for a moment. But nothing was broken and there was no blood, but my nose was sore for a while. He ran and got me this little blue bottle of small pills. "here take this Arnica, it's for bruising and swelling" I had no clue of Homeopathy then. For all I knew he could have been drugging me. But we were from the same church, on a missions trip for Pete's sake. And we were surrounded by church staff and all of our peers. So I took the small sugar pills and I don't remember complaining about my nose after that. I didn't use homeopathy to much after that until I was married. Homeopathy has since become a staple in my family's healthcare. Whenever anyone starts sniffling, I immediately give them aconite and then search for their symptoms in various books I have acquired through the years, or use an online remedy finder.

Homeopathy was developed in the late 18th century by a German doctor named Samuel Hahnemann. Dr. Hahnemann was the founder of several modern medical approaches. Deeming the treatment of insane patients to be cruel and harmful, he advised a humane treatment for the insane. He cured many insane patients with homeopathy and became famous for this success. He also showed us how natural diseases become chronic in nature when suppressed by improper treatment.

Homeopathy has 3 principles.

  • Like treats like. Sicknesses can be cured by using substances that produce similar symptoms in healthy people.
  • The dose is minimal. The remedy is mixed with 1,000,000,000,000 parts of water.
  • A single remedy is needed. one remedy for all symptoms to heal the entire body.

Homeopathy is safe for pregnant mothers, infants, and nursing mothers. You cannot overdose on a homeopathic remedy. So it's ideal to keep in your home when having small children. My own children have found our homeopathic container and have eaten a few tubes of remedies. This is not dangerous as the dosage is very small.  The only sad thing is you have to rebuy all the remedies you lost. Homeopathy does not change hinder any medications you are currently taking.

Proving a remedy: In order to prove a remedy, you would have to take high doses of the same remedy over a long period of time. Proving just brings out the symptoms from that specific remedy. They disappear if you stop taking the remedy. this is extremely rare and again takes a lot of doses and time to do. This is how Dr. Hahnemann was to put together which remedy goes to which symptoms.

There are several types of doses of homeopathy. You have 6x 30x, 30c, 200x. Depending on how long you need to take the remedy or how severe your symptoms are, depends on what dose you should take. If you're dealing with a chronic issue and need to take a remedy for a few months, usually you will need a smaller dose of 6x. if you had major surgery or have given birth, 200x might be needed. But I mostly stick with 30x or 30c.

There is essential no side effect from taking homeopathy properly. If you get the wrong remedy, nothing happens at all. If you get the right one, your symptoms will change immediately. They will either pull out the symptoms and make you worse for a short period, then make you better. Or it could just make you better.

After I got married and before I had children, I felt I was coming down with a cold. Sore throat, my ears felt clogged and I had that, "i don't feel well" feeling. So I looked in my book gifted to me by my mother-in-law and found a remedy. I took it and 20 mins later I ran for the bathroom and got sick. I then laid down for a nap. I woke up completely 100% better from all the symptoms.

If this is such a great thing, why doesn't everyone use this?  Well, the catch is, you have to find the right exact remedy for your symptoms or it won't help you. Do you know how many plants, herbs, and minerals there are on Earth?  That's quite a few remedies to choose from. Many medical doctors and scientists believe homeopathy does nothing. How can a remedy diluted with so much water do anything? It is a bit of a mystery to me as well, but out of all the years I've used homeopathy, it's worked, as long as I found the right exact remedy. Now there are ways to help you find what you need. There are books. websites, and professionals who have devoted their life on the research to find the exact right remedy for your issues. While I tend to look for my own remedies for acute illnesses, I do recommend a professional for chronic conditions.

When my children were born, my mother-in-law handed me Homeopathic Medicine for Children and Infants by Dana Ullman. This one was easy to follow and taught me the common remedies used for children. It was a great learning experience and even explains how homeopathy works. I now order this book for every baby shower I attend.

I was also gifted Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicines by Dana Ullman and Stephen Cummings. This one is easy to read through symptoms and find the right remedy needed.

Sometimes I needed some online help. I stumbled onto ABC Homeopathy which teaches you a ton, has a remedy finder app, and even a remedy store. I usually go to better health or whole foods to find remedies when needed in a pinch. But it's good to have a good selection on hand. A good start is getting an 18 remedy Homeopathic Kit or a 32 remedy Homeopathic Kit . These normally have common remedies mostly used. But like I said before there are millions of remedies to go through. The best thing is to slowly stock up on remedies through time, since they never go bad and last forever, you can slowly buy them.

Let me know of your own Homeopathic experience and what you thought of this blog post!!
